Tamiya's WWI British Mk.IV Male + WWI British Infantry Set

During WWI, much of Western Europe was reduced to a massive battlefield criss-crossed by a seemingly unending network of trenches. The original British Mk.I tank was developed to break the deadlock; the Mk.IV was a later model based on many of the same design principle, and of which around 1,000 were produced starting in March 1917. A "Male" variant was developed to smash through enemy lines and in addition to machine guns it utilized large 6-pounder guns, in contrast to the separate Female variant equipped with only machine guns for armament. The Mk.IV saw a variety of action, including a mass deployment of around 400 at the Battle of Cambrai in November 1917, additionally prevailing in the world's first tank on tank battle with the German A7V in April 1918.
About this kit:
This plastic model accurately recreates the unique form of the British Mk.IV Male tank and is motorized to allow dynamic forward motion.
• 1/35 scale. Length: 230mm, width: 143mm.
• Fine molding faithfully recreates the flat armored panels with numerous rivets.
• Pre-assembled motor and gearbox unit included.
• Durable metal sprockets transmit motor power.
• Moving link type assembly tracks make for realism and easy assembly.
• Comes with 3 marking options.
• Requires one R6/AA/UM3 battery (1.5V) (separately sold).

Tamiya has also has a five figure
WWI British Infantry Set. Item 35339
This set of 5 adaptable figures depicts British infantry from WWI in realistic pose, including an officer, machine gunner and 3 riflemen.
•Uniforms are also faithfully captured, as are accessories such as Lee Enfield rifles, Lewis machine guns, gas mask pouch, canteen and more.
•Rifles feature optional bayonet parts, while helmets can be attached with or without canvas cover.

British infantry in WWI were issued with Pattern 1902 uniform and Pattern 1908 webbing to be worn over the top. Both were manufactured in khaki for camouflage reasons. On their lower legs, infantrymen wore puttees and officers leggings. From the middle of the conflict, steel helmets were distributed and often had canvas covers to reduce reflection.

Product Spotlight: PanPastel Easy Weathering Effects in Seconds!

View Listings
Sometimes we need to look outside our normal fields for inspiration and PanPastels is a good case for doing so. These pastels were launched a several years ago have been widely accepted by model railway modelers as a important tool for weathering. PanPastel Colors are professional grade, ultra-fine pastel colors  packed in a unique pan format (cake-like) so that they can be mixed and applied like paint. The special qualities of PanPastel means that they can be mixed, layered and applied “dry” making them ideal for applying realistic weathering effects quickly. PanPastel Colors adhere well to most surfaces, yet can be removed easily if required. Available in kits & as individual colors. They are very low dust for a cleaner working environment. PanPastel colors are fully compatible with: pastel sticks, pencils, markers, other artist’s colors and mediums for mixed media techniques and conventional fixatives.

This is a revolutionary new way to use color pastels for can blend & apply dry color like fluid paint with no drying time required. Instantly ready for use – just lift the palette lid and work immediately. No solvents or water needed. Application of these pastels is a bit unlike any other weathering. You start by lightly brushing one of the sponges across the pastel; this is the first difference from the normal application of pigments. Unlike the normal brush application method for pigments there is very little waste and absolutely no mess. Next the sponge is brushed across the model leaving a light coating of the color on the model's surfaces. Clean-up is easy too: just put the lids back on the dishes and give the sponges a quick dab into some water to remove the excess, and your done. I was very impressed with this product and if you need to see the effects that can be achieved have a look at Pan Pastels' website, and there are many interesting videos on YouTube showing the process on model railroad stock which can be adapted to our hobby.

For the Fallen

For the Fallen

They went with songs to the battle, they were young.
Straight of limb, true of eye, steady and aglow.
They were staunch to the end against odds uncounted,
They fell with their faces to the foe.

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning,
We will remember them.

Product Spotlight: Andrea Miniatures Captain of Hussars, 1806

S8-F58 Captain of Hussars, 1806
For over 30 years the folks over at Andrea have produced the finest figures on the planet. This beautiful 90mm kit is no exception.

DYK- Andrea now produces 'Unboxed' videos of all their new releases. These can be found on the product pages of our website.

Those of you who receive our newsletter 'Over The Top' every week know that the last issue I added a personal rant as follows...
Long a gripe of mine, companies are doing their customers a disservice by not providing the best possible details on the products they are asking you to buy. Packaging, box art, box contents! Is it to much to ask a manufacture to provide these. Many vendors provide box art but fail to show the contents or the finished product. All too many times the exact oppiste is true. We here at MichToy spend a lot of time searching for the best images and details we can find and if we can't we take our own. After all we are asking you to buy something by it's visual representation. Hats off to Andrea for doing it right and offering you the complete picture on their products. Let's hope more companies follow suit.

FIGURE OF THE WEEK #80: Native American Warrior Connoisseur Figure from Russia

Featured here is a beautiful Native American Warrior produced in Russia. These so-called 'Russian Figures' are handcrafted 54mm historical miniatures created by the finest Russian sculptors and artists, centered in various studios mainly in St. Petersburg.  These figures are considered connoisseur model figures as opposed to toy soldiers. Many consider these hand made figures miniature works of art and as such they quite often turn into a great investment as opposed to the mass, factory produced miniatures coming out of China. Long one of my favorite miniatures this figure is deserving of our  FOTW pick.

Join the Fun! Have a favorite figure? Send us a good image of it along with a brief description and become one of our Figure of the Week contributors. Email you submissions to If your figure is chosen you will receive a special promo code for a nice discount on your next order with us as well as our eternal gratitude.
