FIGURE OF THE WEEK #41: HALLOW~E'EN by Andrea Miniatures

It's Halloween week so it is only fitting that our Figure of the Week is HALLOW~E'EN based on the classic Norman Rockwell cover for The Saturday Evening Post  from 1920. This figure was issued a couple of years ago as a 54mm figure kit by Andrea Miniatures and is part of their Wonderful World Series (WY-11).

Beloved American artist Norman Rockwell (1894 – 1978) is most known for his nostalgic, touching paintings that appealingly depicted simple scenes from everyday life. First hired to illustrate a series of children’s books when he was 16, Rockwell was then hired as the art director of “Boys’ Life,” the official magazine of the Boy Scouts of America. The “Saturday Evening Post,” the era’s most prestigious magazine, bought their first cover from him six years later. For almost five decades, he created 321 “Post” covers, which became his trademark.

FIGURE OF THE WEEK #39: Red Army Sub Machine Gunner!

Our  Figure of the Week comes from Stuart Jarman who writes...
Without a doubt my all time favorite figure is this veteran Red Army sub machine gunner from my first ever set, the Airfix Russian Infantry #1717.  Since 1964 he has been crouching in trenches and ruined buildings, manning all kinds of weapons from mortars and machine guns to artillery pieces, operating radios and riding into battle on the back of many a T.34 - a true 'all rounder', and 49 years later is still serving bravely!

FIGURE OF THE WEEK #38: Oh La La! It's a Bathing Beauty!

This stunning beauty caught my eye on Flicker the other day. She is actually one of eight poses in the classic Marx Bathing Beauties series of 60mm plastic pin-ups from the 1960s. Posted on Flicker as 'Spanking Girl - Discipline' with the subtitle 'Mr. and Mrs. Gene Bilbrew get out the strap, when they return home and find their teenage daughter - Bettie Page Bilbrew entertaining the neighbor boy clad only in her swim suit. Ya gotta love the toy soldier guys who manage to show a sense on humor in every nook & cranny of the hobby! Just another beauty worthy of the MTSC Figure of the Week!
