Figure of the Week #58: I am just a poor by but my story's seldom told...

With the explosion of all the "Little People" on reality TV it's only fitting that we spotlight these two diminutive figures. They are the "Boxing Midgets" [sic] from the Charbens Circus Set.

Charbens was founded in 1929, producing lead figures and vehicles. After the war further vehicles were introduced, now mainly using zinc. The post war zinc castings suffer badly from metal fatigue due to contamination of the molten zinc by lead, as both metals were used in their toy production. With the plastic revolution of the '60s, Charbens switched primary focus back to figures. Originally these two tiny pugilists would have been painted but the recasts are sold in solid, varying colors.
